Sporty students rise to the challenge for charity

King’s Seniors have selected one charity for the whole school to raise money for this year, known as the King’s As 1 charity. This year’s King’s As 1 charity is The Bren Project who is a local charity that help and supports people with autism and learning difficulties.

Each House is taking it in turns to do an activity to fundraise for The Bren Project, including a Dance-a-thon and Fête. Today’s fundraising challenge has included a sponsored bike ride using one of the exercise bikes from the gym. This has been fitted with a device to measure distance and speed which has been set up in a central space in the school. The aim will be for the cyclists to do an overall distance of 162 miles which is the distance from King’s to the University of Oxford between 8am until the end of school.

All Fifth Year pupils and Sixth Formers from Dutton, Bradbury and Walsh House will sign up to ride for a 10-minute slot on the exercise bike at some point during the day and have pledged to gain some sponsors.

Pupils from Removes to Fourths will also be running laps outside to raise money for The Bren Project. Mr Downey and Mr Bosworth are also aiming to ride 500 miles each throughout March to raise money for the local charity.

As it is also Sport Relief this week, pupils have been dressing up for the occasion whilst getting active and running laps. Willow Lodge pupils have been wearing something red, King’s Juniors have been wearing their best sporting outfit, and King’s Seniors are wearing fancy dress – even the teachers got involved!

The total raised so far for Sport Relief is £550.55 and the total for The Bren Project is £1,028.07.

A fantastic effort from all pupils across the school – well done everyone!
