Spud Success for Thomas

Thomas Brennan (L6GLA) has shown great entrepreneurial spirit over lockdown by setting up a delivery business which delivers potatoes to rural areas in Cheshire every Wednesday.

The business, Tom’s Spuds, has been delivering around eight bags of potatoes to around 70 customers each week. Although Thomas can’t drive, he has had the help from his father and sister to make the deliveries. The concept proved to be a great idea which encouraged Thomas to expanded the business and now includes pick-and-mix-vegetable boxes.

Thomas has said: ‘It’s like a paper round with potatoes. I thought of delivering potatoes in particular because they can be quite heavy when you’re carrying them from the shops to the car.

‘Lots of the people I deliver to can’t get to the shops because they’re vulnerable or can’t get out much. Many of them are elderly and aren’t going to the shops because they’re shielding.’

Tom’s Spuds has been a a great success so far, Thomas has made over £2,500 which he plans to reinvest into the business so that he can learn to drive and buy a van to keep up with the deliveries around Cheshire.
