On Tuesday, 30 January, eleven budding engineers travelled to the University of Bolton to take part in the F1 in Schools Regional Final North West.
Consisting entirely of Removes pupils, the two teams – Vortex Racing and Racing Central – competed in the Entry Class division, which is designed to get young people started in the competition.
The competition covers all angles of Formula 1 as pupils are asked to design and make a small F1 car, produce a portfolio, build a pit display and communicate to the judges in a verbal presentation.
Competing against high quality teams from across the region, the team performed excellently with Vortex Racing taking the prize for the fastest car and being nominated in the judge’s choice category. Racing Central also picked up a nomination for the future stars award.
Congratulations also to Oscar Van Kalles (RMMB) who produced the best reaction time over the whole competition, which included participants up to Sixth Form age.
The teams were accompanied by Head of Design Technology, Richard Curtis.
He said: “King’s have a great history in F1 in Schools, so it was a pleasure to be back again. I am delighted that the both teams were recognised by the judges for their hard work.
“Such was the excitement that I am sure the teams will be back for Development class next year and have the chance to compete in a National Final.”
