Student Blog: Next stop, Edinburgh – drama at King’s

During my time at King’s I have been in many of the fantastic productions put on by the Drama department; this year was no different as I performed in the school’s latest production of ‘A Clockwork Orange,’ which brought its own unique experience. This year’s rehearsal process was short but intense and introduced the cast into a range of theatre techniques, including a stage combat workshop with Rc-Annie which is the leading UK stage combat company, entailing of a fun evening learning how to make violence on stage seem authentic and simultaneously safe. 

The cast this year was is one of the smallest King’s has ever had with only 10 boys. The girls put on a separate performance of ‘Girls Like That’. This year was certainly different as our friendship groups had not crossed paths in the school before. 

By the time the performance came around the boys had become close and it seemed a shame that the process was coming to an end. However, I am glad to say that the production is not quite over yet as we are planning on taking the show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August next year. 

I am hoping to take my drama further as this year I am applying to drama school to study acting, which is an exciting but slightly daunting prospect for me! Acting has always been my passion and the workshop the Drama department put on with Nickolas Grace, a professional actor who has starred in many television programmes such as Killing Eve and Doctor Who, helped me to realise what I envision myself doing in the future and that taking the risk would be truly amazing if I am able to earn a living out of something that inspires me. 

I am glad to say I am lucky to have a great team of people behind me to guide and support me in my audition process including family, friends, and teachers in the Drama department, Mrs Howdon and Mrs Williams.
