This half-term, children in Junior School Languages Club have been treated to number of club sessions led by our very own Fourth Year Language Leaders.
Our younger pupils have loved learning about languages and cultures from around the world, whilst our older pupils have relished the opportunity to develop their communication skills and learn how to deliver an engaging lesson.
The Language Leader programme is run in Senior School by Modern Languages teacher, Mrs Rowley-Williams.
She said: “Our Language Leaders are passionate about language learning and this has been a great way for them to share their passion and develop new skills.
“As part of their Language Leaders course, they are tasked with developing and delivering a lesson to Junior School pupils and we have seen them really grow in confidence.
“They have learned a lot about how to use tone and body language, as well as how to engage a class of younger pupils, and they have all enjoyed creating something that they are passionate about to share with younger pupils.”
From using German football to learn colours to a pop-up Spanish shop, and even an interactive Portuguese lesson all about Brazilian carnival, the Fourth Year pupils delivered their lessons in a variety of creative ways, engaging the younger pupils in every session.
Philippa Rae is the Junior School Languages teacher who runs Languages Club. She has been working with Mrs Rowley-Williams on the Language Leader programme and she thanked the Senior School pupils for their lessons.
She said: “This is the second year of running the Language Leader programme across Senior School and Junior School, and it has been great to see it grow in scope and size. George, Huw, Laura, Harry and Luca all did a brilliant job of teaching their lessons and the Junior School children have been so enthusiastic about them.
“One of the great advantages of all pupils being together on one site is that it is so easy for young and older pupils to share their passions and learn from each other. And when that passion is languages, it makes me very happy indeed!”
