Congratulations to Ellis Williams (SHBRD) who has been selected to join the 2023 British Youth Music Theatre Company (BYMT).
BYMT is the leading music theatre company for young people aged 11 – 21 and counts a number of well-known actors and musicians amongst its alumni including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Charlotte Ritchie.
Thousands of young people audition for BYMT every year with the rigorous selection process covering the key skills of acting, singing and dancing.
For his audition, Ellis attended a 3-hour workshop where he worked with a musical director, had to improvise a Shakespeare monologue from a randomly chosen quote, and learn a dance routine with a choreographer.
Ellis said: “I really enjoyed the audition workshop and felt it had gone well so I was thrilled to find out I been selected to join the BYMT 2023 Company.”
Clare Howden, Director of Drama at King’s, congratulated Ellis on his achievement.
She said: “This is incredible news, and very well deserved. Ellis is a really talented young actor and we are all very proud of him.”
He is now looking forward to working with industry professionals on a brand new show, Harry and Greta, a dystopian retelling of the Brothers Grimm classic Hansel and Gretel which has been written by Lewis Cornay, recipient of the 2023 New Music Theatre Award.
Ellis is pictured here in the recent King’s School production of Les Misérables.
