Well done to King’s U14/15 Girls Football squad who won 5-1 against The Queen’s School in the first round of the District Cup last week.
Match report written by Caitlin Thomas (U6GRO) who runs the football club and is the team coach.
In the first 11 a-side match for the girls’ side, the girls adapted to the style very quickly. With an early goal from Sinead O’Mahony (3WAL), the girls gained confidence and passed the ball well around the field. A second goal came from Maya Swift (3BRD) shortly after and was another great boost for the team. Queen’s were then awarded a free quick very near the King’s goal and scored which meant that the score was set at 2-1 at half time.
The King’s girls came back even stronger in the second half, with three more goals coming from Evie Williams (3WER), Lily Hodge (3GLA) and another for Sinead O’Mahony. The team played exceptionally well as a unit, however special mentions must go to Erin Heath (3GLA) and Evie Williams for their great teamwork on the wings and Margot Melville (3GRO) for her great efforts in defence.
A huge well done also to the youngest member of the team, Flora Plass (SHWER), whose strong performance in goal provided the team with great confidence, especially in defence.
Overall, the match was a great show of the girls’ talents as they look forward to the rest of the season. They are now successfully through and look forward to the next game in the Chester and District Cup.
