It has been a memorable week for Lower Sixth student Jacob Watson (L6WAL) who made his U21 debut for Manchester United on Tuesday, 20 January.
Playing in the Premier League International Cup, the team celebrated a 3-2 victory over Sporting Lisbon at the Progress with Unity Stadium.
Jacob joined Manchester United at pre-Academy level when he was just five years old and, in July 2025, he signed scholarship forms with the club, joining the U18s for the 2025/26 season.
Director of Sport, Richard Lunn, congratulated Jacob on his debut.
He said: “We are immensely proud of Jacob, who continues to balance studying for A levels with the remarkable achievement of playing for Manchester United. Throughout his time at King’s, he has remained equally committed to his studies and to his football, and that is to be commended.
“Making his debut for the U21 side at the age of 16 whilst still in the Lower Sixth is an extraordinary milestone and a testament to his talent, dedication and maturity.
“Whenever his schedule allowed last year, he represented the school 1st XI with distinction, playing a key role in securing last year’s national title.
“His determination on and off the pitch is inspiring, and we hope he continues on his upward trajectory and fulfils his ambition of forging a successful career in professional football.”
