Children in our Reception classes were excited to spend a morning with the author Fay Evans this week.
Fay, who last visited Willow Lodge in March 2020, is author of popular rhyming stories including Fred The Fire-Sneezing Dragon and Bob’s Beard.
Fay led an assembly in which she talked about her author journey, before inviting the children to sneeze along with Fred as she read her first book about the loveable dragon.
Each of our Reception classes then enjoyed an interactive reading of her brand new book, Dave the Whale.
The children had a wonderful time helping Fay act out the story of a young whale called Dave who wants to swim to land so that he can go sunbathing. They flipped, flapped and rolled around in the water as they followed Dave’s journey to the coast.
Deputy Head of Willow Lodge and Reception teacher Jan Callaghan thanked Fay for her visit.
She said: “The children love meeting real-life authors and it has been wonderful to see them so engaged today.
“It has been a real treat to be among the first people to hear the story of Dave the Whale. It is a story about working together to achieve something that can’t be achieved alone, and teamwork is really important to us in Willow Lodge.”
At the end of her visit, Fay met with a number of children who had pre-ordered a signed book.
