Wales Rowing U19 Training Weekend - The King's School Chester

Wales Rowing U19 Training Weekend

Over a weekend in February, The King’s School Rowing Club (KSRC) hosted the Wales U19 Training Camp.

A total of 40 rowers from 14 clubs, including ten from KSRC, trained as part of a development group in preparation for the Home International Gala which takes place in Ireland on 22 July.

James Gray, one of the rowing coaches at The King’s School, was also in attendance as the Junior Wales (Women) Lead Coach.

The weekend’s focus was to enable the best junior rowers in Wales to train together and develop a greater technical understanding of the rowing stroke. Multiple sessions across both days gave the rowers a fantastic opportunity to make technical advances.

The five male rowers from KSRC trained with both sculling and sweep teams, while the five females rowers trained in a quadruple scull, coxed four and an eight. The camp concluded with multiple side-by-side races over a 2,000m and 650m course.

Will King, Welsh Rowing U19 head coach was delighted at everything the athletes achieved over the weekend.

He said: “The weekend was a great success! A lot of thanks are owed to the coaches and staff at KRSC for allowing us to host the camp and use their boathouse.

“The equipment, facilities and stretch of river made for a very productive and fun weekend for everyone involved.”
