Willow Lodge children climb to new fundraising heights

This year, Willow Lodge, have chosen North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR), a local branch of Mountain Rescue, as this year’s school charity, and they made a fantastic start to their fundraising, collecting £900 on just one day.

At the end of Lent Term, infant pupils held a hugely successful sale of handmade mountain-related gifts.

From Rocky Mountain Road treats made by Reception to mountain climber decorations by Infant 1, and the pretty but practical whistle holders that had been carefully plaited by Infant 2 children, everyone was able to find something to take home with them. In addition, our enterprising teachers used commission from the Book Fair earlier this year to put on a book stall, adding much-needed funds to the charity pot.

Deputy Head of Willow Lodge, Hannah Gardiner, congratulated the children on the incredible amount of money they raised.

She said: “I am so proud of our Willow Lodge children. They chose Mountain Rescue as their school charity following a whole-school vote, and they were inspired by a visitor from the charity to raise money to buy equipment for them.

“That pupil voice continued as they decided how to raise the money and they put so much thought and hard work into the items they made for our fundraising sale, even ensuring that they all had a mountain theme.”

The money collected will be donated to NEWSAR. You can find out more their important work on their website – Mountain Rescue | Newsar | Wales
