Young delegates make their mark at MUN conference

On Tuesday, 23 June, 14 pupils from Removes, Shells and Thirds braved the hot weather to make the short journey to the Moreton Hall Mini MUN Conference.

Representing Romania, Venezuela and Afghanistan on a variety of committees, this was the first taste of MUN for many of the young pupils. The conference theme was “A Voice for the Voiceless” and covered topics as diverse as weight loss drugs, protection of journalists and combatting human trafficking.

It proved to be a very successful conference for King’s delegates with seven pupils named as outstanding or commended delegates, and six pupils having resolutions passed by their committee.

The pupils were accompanied to Moreton Hall by Corrissa Collier, who was very proud of how pupils performed.

She said: “The Moreton Hall Mini MUN Conference is great for first-time delegates and our pupils really made the most of the experience today. Some of the younger pupils have only been attending MUN for a short time but they showed great maturity in how they approached the conference.

“Model United Nations gives students a unique opportunity to research and view a global issue from a different perspective. As such, it’s a great way for students to develop important skills of empathy, negotiation and compromise, as well as public speaking and debate.

“With these young delegates coming through, it is encouraging to know that the future of MUN at King’s is very bright indeed.”
