Young Tycoons: sweet taste of success for Creamy Cocoa

Competition is hotting up between three teams of entrepreneurial Sixth Formers who have taken on the Peter Jones Tycoon Enterprise Challenge.

In the annual competition, teams have to write a business plan that is approved by the Peter Jones Foundation, and apply for a start-up loan. They then begin trading with the aim of making as much profit as possible.

This year, two t-shirt companies are doing battle with a team of chocolatiers. In turn, the three King’s teams are competing against 46 other student companies across the UK.

The first business is Creamy Cocoa. Millen Batra (L6LES) and Charlie Marshall (L6LES) have set up Creamy Cocoa to make and sell hand-made, quality chocolate at a reasonable price.

Currently at the top of the national leader board for the amount of revenue generated since the competition began, Millen and Charlie are pleased with the excellent start they have made.

Charlie said: “We are running our business in a rather old fashioned way; we don’t have a website or social media but word of mouth and selling in-person are really working for Creamy Cocoa!”

With Mother’s Day and Easter both coming up soon, they hope to build on their already impressive sales; chocolate lollipops are just £1 each, and £5 chocolate bundles are available on request, or from the staff room.

Millen and Charlie will be selling again this week at breaktime on Friday, 17 March in the Senior School foyer, and again on selected days next week. Sales are currently cash only.
