Careers Breakfast: Mr Seb Gardiner

Our final Careers Breakfast of the year took place on Friday, 24 June when we were joined by the MD of Peel Ports Logistics, Mr Seb Gardiner.

Students from across the Senior School enjoyed an interesting insight into Logistics and Supply Chain, including some of the recent – and ongoing – challenges facing the industry, including Brexit, transport strikes and Covid.

As well as giving an overview of his own career path and introducing students to some of the opportunities in the shipping and logistics sector, Mr Gardiner also shared valuable advice for securing a job in their chosen field.

Advising students to get experience of the world of work, whether it’s through a weekend job, holiday job, or work experience,  he said: “Learning to work with other people and deal with customers is invaluable for almost any career. Furthermore, a job teaches the real value of money and a sense of achievement when you earn your own.”

Dr Hensman, Head of Careers, thanked Mr Gardiner for giving up his time to talk to the students. He said: “Mr Gardiner’s talk this morning will have opened the students’ eyes to an industry which affects their everyday lives, but which they were probably largely unaware of.

“This was a great session to end this year’s series of Careers Breakfasts and we are looking forward to welcoming more speakers from a variety of backgrounds in the new academic year.”
