Careers Day: Fifth formers focus on the future

Our Fifth formers are currently enjoying a well-deserved break after their GCSE assessments so we were delighted when some of them chose to join us in school for a careers day this week.

Head of Careers Dr Hensman organised a future-focussed day that combined practical advice with interactive skills sessions, and he introduced students to an online tool that encourages them to identify their core skills to help with finding the right university course and, ultimately, career.

Dr Hensman was pleased that so many students took advantage of the opportunity to focus on these key skills for a day: “The day was entirely voluntary so it was great to welcome in 25 students for a morning and afternoon of really productive sessions. The students particularly enjoyed the interview skills session during which Mr Neal passed on some top tips, and they had the chance to think about their responses to some of those trickier questions that employers like to ask.”

“The day also included a CV workshop, practical advice on work experience and a discussion on the future of work. As these students move on to Sixth Form study, the day has given the students a really strong basis to start planning for life after school.”
