Lunchtime recital hits the right notes

This lunchtime, staff and pupils were treated to a lunchtime recital by our brass musicians.

The Music Department’s monthly lunchtime recitals give musicians from all year groups an opportunity to gain valuable performance experience and showcase their talents. Today, Head of Brass, Mr Ortiz, introduced music from three of our brass ensembles, along with a selection of soloists, to the gathered audience.

One of today’s soloists, Jake Bywater (3GRO), performed August One on the trumpet, a piece that he also performed for his Grade 3 ABRSM Trumpet (Jazz) exam in December. Jake passed the exam with distinction, gaining the highest mark awarded on the day.

Other soloists included Jack Hayter (L6FOX) and Weston Heller (L6FOX) who will both be taking exams later this term and used today’s recital as an opportunity to practise their required pieces in front of an audience.

The full running order of today’s recital was:

King’s Brass – Chorale

James Jacobs (Soloist) – Ragtime

Jake Bywater (soloist) – August One
