The show must go on!

King’s Drama department is in full swing rehearsing our upcoming filmed productions of ‘The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe’.

This ambitious project will see performances featuring each year group bubble filmed in March, followed by a  premiere in the Vanbrugh Theatre. This ambitious project is in response to the current measures surrounding live, large-scale drama productions in schools.

Students and staff will be invited to a glitzy red-carpet event, complete with Narnia themed refreshments and a chance to get dressed up, pose for photographs and watch the film of ‘The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe’.

Whilst Mrs Williams is busy rehearsing with Shells and Thirds students, Head of Drama Mrs Howdon is working with the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Form students.

A number of members of teaching staff are working hard to ensure all props, set and costumes arrive for the beginning of January, when in-house year group filming of the production begins.

Mrs Howden said: “It has been an exhausting but exhilarating experience and we are very lucky to have the technical expertise of Theatre Technicians Mr Mannix and Mr Butcher, who are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that we are able to bring the magic of film to our productions.

“It has been a steep learning curve and next term will bring a whole host of challenges; students will be filming scenes in 16 different locations. We also have a large crew of enthusiastic students who will be working as set, costume, lighting, sound, hair, make-up and continuity assistants. We even have some members of staff making cameo appearances as the older versions of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy.”

She added: “Even with the challenges presented to us by Covid-19, there has been a true sense of ‘the show must go on!’ throughout all rehearsals and this is certain to continue into next term.

“We are very proud of the King’s staff and students for embracing this new challenge and we very much look forward to seeing the final production!”
