Ways of giving

There are many different ways to donate to King’s. All donations make a significant difference, no matter how large or small, and are greatly valued by the school.

Single Gift

Single gifts can be made by cheque, charity vouchers or bank transfer using our donation form.

Please consider Gift Aid when you make a donation.  As a UK taxpayer, your donations can gain an extra 25p for every £1 you give through the Gift Aid scheme. Even better, higher rate tax payers can claim an additional 37.5p for every £1 donated, which you can keep or pass on to any charitable organisation.

Regular Gifts

Donating regularly via Standing Order on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis is one of the very best ways in which you can support King’s. A regular gift allows us to plan for the future with confidence. If you would like to set up a regular donation, please download and complete our donation form, which also includes information on how the Gift Aid Scheme can make your donation benefit pupils even further.

Legacies

There are considerable tax benefits in making a gift in this way – bequests can be made free from Inheritance and Capital Gains Tax, so by making such a gift, you could reduce the total tax burden levied on your estate to your family.

If you are thinking about a legacy or would like to know more either click here to view our legacies brochure or contact our Alumni Team on 01244 689 492 or email alumni@kingschester.co.uk

Shares

Gifts of shares, securities or other property benefit particularly well from King’s charitable status. The value of a gift of shares to King’s can be increased considerably through tax relief. Please contact our Alumni Team on 01244 689 492 or email alumni@kingschester.co.uk  if you would like to find out more about making a gift of shares.

Payroll Giving

As an alternative to a standing order, you can donate on a regular basis through payroll giving. This is a means of making a gift directly from your salary before income tax is deducted. As a result you will automatically get tax relief at your top rate of tax, with King’s receiving the gross value. For example, if you are a basic rate taxpayer, a monthly gift of £5 to King’s would effectively only cost you £3.90. Please contact your employer’s own payroll department to find out whether they participate in this scheme.

Matching Gifts

Many employers offer matching gift schemes, whereby they double or even treble donations made by their employees – in other words a gift made to King’s could be increased if an employer was able to contribute the same, or a greater amount. Please contact your employer’s personnel department to see if they operate a matching gift programme.

Gifts in Kind

King’s may accept gifts of property, art, literature and other articles. Please contact the Alumni Team on 01244 689 492 or email alumni@kingschester.co.uk to discuss how you could make such a gift.

Corporate Gifts

Gifts from companies and partnerships can be made tax-efficient. Companies can claim Corporation Tax on all donations to the School. When a company gives to King’s, the value of the gift can be offset against the company’s highest rate of Corporation Tax. Company gifts can be made on a regular or one-off basis. The School is also happy to consider sponsorship opportunities.

Gifts from Overseas

Gifts from overseas can be made by electronic transfer and in some countries it is possible to make a donation to the School in a tax-effective way. To find out more about making electronic transfers or making a tax-effective donation, please contact the school.
