Appeal for garden tools and paint!

A group of 19 Sixth Form students will be working at the new Save the Family development at Cotton Hall Farm each fortnight as part of the Community Action Enrichment option. Save the Family provides homes and community for families who find themselves homeless. The charity helps to support them back into work and homes of their own by equipping them with skills that will allow them to find jobs and become more self-reliant.

We are hoping to build a lasting and strong bond between the School and Save the Family and really make a difference.

Students can get involved with the families, helping with infant play and learning, moneysense, domestic skills, sports and there will be a vegetable plot and garden areas to help with too. In fact, the possibilities are almost endless and the students came back from their visit and tour last week full of ideas that draw on their skills and might be useful.

The new site will start to take families from about Christmas and in the meantime there is finishing to be done which the King's students can help with.

The first project for King's students is to paint three large-scale murals within the childcare and nursery areas of the site and the three A level Art students are going to design them and everyone will paint!

Another is clearing land and creating garden spaces and a vegetable plot. Save the Family have no tools at the moment and therefore we should like to appeal to parents for any redundant garden tools, spades, hoes, forks etc that you may have. The tools will be left at the development and used when students are attending.

Also, if by any chance you would be able to donate paint, which might be suitable for the murals, (silk emulsion in primary colours?)  this would be gratefully accepted too!

Donated tools can be left at the Bailiffs’ Store. For further information please contact Miss Rowley: emr@kingschester.co.uk
